ABOUT THERESA

I began dancing at age 2 and was asked to join the competition team at age 4. I competed and trained in all genres of dance, ranging from ballet to tap to even hip hop. Additionally, I competed on the travel competition team from ages 13-18. My love for ballet grew over the years and throughout college, I trained at New Jersey Ballet. During college, I began teaching ballet at different studios. Consistently, I have been teaching ballet at a small studio, located in Middlesex, NJ. I firmly believe that ballet is the foundation of dance. Without ballet, a dancer will not succeed completely in any other genre of dance. It is important to start at the beginning and watch the dancer grow as an individual.

Yoga came to me later in life when I started college. College comes with all different kinds of stressors and headaches so I took up yoga in order to become centered with myself. Well, I quickly fell in love with it and practiced every day at a local yoga studio and even by myself at home. An opportunity fell into my lap of becoming certified to teach yoga and I immediately jumped at the idea of it. The yoga teacher training was known for being intense and difficult to be admitted. I had to go through an interview process and was selected as one out of 50 women from all over the world to experience this teacher training. So, I have my RYT 200-HR Yoga Teacher Training by Rachel Brathen and Lara Heimann from Island Yoga in Aruba. Yoga has brought me so much peace over the years and I love to be able to do that for other yogis. Life has so many stressors but if we take the time to ground down to the Earth and use our breath movements, a weight will be lifted.

As far as American Sign Language, I took one class and fell in love with the language. I took three more classes and knew it was what I wanted to do with my life. I attended The College of New Jersey with the idea of becoming a Teacher of the Deaf. However, plans changed and I decided to stick with the sign language and start the training of becoming an interpreter. I currently hold my NIC certification and do freelance interpreting. It is not often at all that yoga or ballet classes are held for D/deaf and Hard of Hearing people so with my knowledge, I am able to offer those classes while being very inclusive.
